Canada Is boosting immigration in response to COVID-19 and the Facilitating Access to Skilled Talent (FAST) program is an attractive opportunity for Canadian Immigrants and newcomers. This program will help unlock career opportunities for new immigrants while addressing workforce needs in critical sectors.

ABOUT THE FAST PROGRAM

The Facilitating Access to Skilled Talent Program is a career platform funded by Canada’s Future Skills Center (FSC).

This pilot program has drastically sped up Newcomer’s job searching process. The platform enables newcomers to assess and develop their skills online, at the same time they can use the portal to seek meaningful employment that matches their skills and experience.

FAST provides occupational specific technical and soft skill assessments, training resources and connections to credentialing and employment supports

FAST PILOT PROGRAM – SUCCESS STORIES

The pilot program has helped newcomers secure job roles in the fields of Biotechnology, culinary arts, accounting, and IT. It has enabled more than two thousand participants in 2016 to join the Canadian Labor Market.

The data from the pilot evaluation is promising.

• Half of the participants in the pilot program achieved employment in five months after registration.
• Their salaries are $1500 or more. This amount is more than what an average newcomer with 1 year experience in the Canadian work force will make.

Developed by the Immigrant Employment Council of BC (IEC-BC), FAST has been selected amongst the top ten projects for FSC’s Scaling Up Skills Development program. It will enable more organizations to deliver FAST program to newcomers across Canada.
